School breakfast initiative expands thanks to $40k donation

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8: Children at two more schools will get breakfast provided thanks to a $40,000 donation this morning.

Michael Freisenbruch, president of insurers Freisenbruch-Meyer, presented the Coalition for the Protection of Children (CPC) with a cheque for $40,000 towards the Breakfast for Every Child initiative. The programme, which gives meals to primary school children, will expand to six schools, from four, as a result of today’s donation. It has not yet been decided which schools will benefit.

The money came from sales of the charitable CD Ride the Wave Vol. 1, sponsored by the company and designed by Mr Freisenbruch with contributing artist Tony Brannon.

Artists Michael Cacy, Ed Christopher and Steven Spencer-Arscott also attended the presentation.

A statement from Education Minister Jennifer Smith given to be read out this morning noted that “between 25 percent and 30 percent of black children in female-led households live in situations where basic nutritional meals are not available on a consistent basis”.

CPC chairwoman Sheelagh Cooper thanked the sponsors and contributors, telling them: “This donation is almost enough to feed an entire school for an entire year.”
