Teenager pleads guilty to taxi driver assault
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17: UPDATED A teenager this morning admitted to robbing and attacking a taxi driver with a metal bike part and leaving him needing treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Edward DeSilva Ottley, 18, of Cherry Hill, in Pembroke, pleaded guilty to the robbery and the use of an offensive weapon on taxi driver Paul Trew, 33, on Sunday. The attack left him needing treatment at the hospital including nine staples in his head.
Magistrates’ Court heard the attack happened shortly after midnight when Mr Trew was called a pick up from Upper Crust, in Somerset. On the way to Woody’s Bar, Mr Trew was struck with a metal object while in the back parking lot of trhe bar, said Crown counsel Larissa Burgess.
Ottley’s co-accused Akeem Harrell, 18, of Warwick, and Jahrico Tucker, 17, of Smiths, pleaded not guilty to robbing Mr Trew of a cellular phone and keys and thereby using force and another charge of possessing an offensive weapon namely a 12 in metal bike part. They were represented by defence lawyers Elizabeth Christopher and Larry Mussenden respectively.
All three defendants will appear in court for mention on November 30 and were remanded in custody at Co-ed Facility until then.
