Ahad?s qualifications to be doubled-checked
Education Minister Terry Lister jumped the gun when he said a report looking into the credentials of Government IT education officer Abdallah Ahad was to go to the Public Service Commission (PSC) yesterday.
The report, compiled by the Ministry of Education, will not actually go before the PSC until the end of the month, a Ministry spokesperson clarified yesterday.
Mr. Ahad was required to submit proof of his qualifications after potentially damning news reports emerged over the last two weeks which claimed his alma maters ? Harvard and Cambridge College ? had never heard of him.
It was also reported that the university where Mr. Ahad claimed to have obtained a PhD no longer exists, but previously sold degrees online.
Mr. Ahad spoke out in his own defence on Sunday.
?My credentials were in order,? he told . ?Once the facts are known, everybody will see I have not misrepresented myself.?
With Mr. Lister promising he would have his day in court, Mr. Ahad was required to present proof of his qualifications to the Ministry of Education by last Friday.
?I am happy with what I have submitted so far,? he told .
The Government spokesperson said the Ministry must now cross-reference and double-check what Mr. Ahad has submitted.
?They will have until the end of the month to get all that information, and then a report will go to the PSC,? she said.
Formerly on the faculty of the Bermuda College, Mr. Ahad moved to the position of Government IT Education Officer some time ago.
He is currently continuing with his job as normal, was told.
He will continue to do so unless his qualifications are proven to be false.
