Ambitious nine storey expansion planned for Coco Reef
This is how a multimillion dollar expansion of the Coco Reef Resort will look if planning permission is given for the project.
Owner John Jefferis revealed the $74 million look to saying that no expense would be spared on the scheme.
It will include 66 luxury holiday apartments, a palm terrace walk, man-made meandering river and mini-woodland reserve.
The nine-storey building will have a central terrace featuring a large infinity pool with a river meandering through a woodland area before reaching a six-foot high waterfall that feeds into a second infinity pool in rocks beside the beach.
?No expense will be spared for the fixtures, furniture and linens, and for the quality of the construction. Guests will also enjoy the services of a lavish European-style spa facility,? said Mr. Jefferis.
Earlier this month Mr. Jefferis announced the expansion plans which superseded a previous idea to build 55 condos in two eight-storey buildings on the tennis court area.
The South Shore scheme has now been submitted for a decision by the Development Applications Board.
It is anticipated construction will take 18 months to complete, but would not disrupt the operation of the current hotel because the new building is set back from the beach area and is at the eastern end of the resort.
Environmental features are to be incorporated including hidden solar panels in the roof area and building facade.
Water from the river running between the two infinity pools will be pumped back up to the top pool to create a continuous circulation, and the river will be followed by a walkway through the tropical woodland where plants will be labelled.
Guests arriving at the new Coco Villas building will encounter an open archway running from the front to the back of the building giving a view of the tropical woodland and ocean beyond.
?Guests arrive at the courtyard with an archway that looks straight out to the ocean and gives it a far more open nature look than arriving at the outside of a building,? explained Mr. Jefferis.
Since March this year Coco Reef has enjoyed 90 percent occupancy, one of the reasons Mr. Jefferis feels the time is right to expand and provide what he believes will be an unrivalled resort on the Island.
The new apartments will all have sea views and feature amenities that include full butler service, private beach and golf club memberships.
Each apartment has two bedrooms and can be reconfigured to create two one-bedroom suites if required ? thereby allowing the new building to boast a possible 132 suites.
Mr. Jefferis intends the holiday units to be sold on a leasehold basis with the owner free to use their apartment for up to six months of the year with the apartments leased back to the hotel for the remaining portion of the year. It is also intended to build 20 staff accommodation units close to the existing hotel.
