Two Pembroke men charged with assaulting off-duty Police officers at the Blue Juice bar last week appeared in Magistrates? Court yesterday.

Darren Sousa, 25, and Stephen Boyce, 24, faced charges in connection with a dispute at the Front Street bar in the early hours of May 18.

Sousa, who had bruises on his face and bloodshot eyes, was charged with unlawfully wounding Insp. Nick Pedro and using an offensive weapon, a glass. The court also heard that he shouted offensive remarks at Insp. Pedro.

Sousa was also charged with violently resisting arrest. He was not required to enter a plea as the offences are indictable.

Sousa?s lawyer Victoria Pearman asked that Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves consider bail. She said her client would abide by a recording system while out on bail and not interfere with witnesses. Mr. Greaves denied bail and ordered Sousa be remanded in custody.

Boyce, who was also involved in the dispute, was charged with assaulting Police officer, P.c. Roger Saints. He pleaded not guilty and elected a trial in Magistrates? Court. Boyce was granted $500 bail. He will return to court on June 2 for mention.

A man charged with trespassing was warned to stay away from Teen Haven in Magistrates? Court, yesterday.

Derrick Gibbons, 31, of Devonshire, was spotted on the property between April and May after receiving a written order to stay off the premises.

Gibbons pleaded guilty with an explanation.

He told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves that he had gone to the home to pick up his baby and attempted to get back onto the property to get diapers for the child.

?I peeped through the door and called on (the child?s mother) to get my daughter changed,? he said. He said some girls at the home had become alarmed after seeing him ?peeping through the door?.

?That place is not a harem, the women are there to be kept away from you,? said Mr. Greaves.

He gave Gibbons a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered him not to step foot on the Teen Haven property.
