Belco launches new interconnection policy

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3: People with small-scale renewable energy systems are now able to sell excess electricity back to Belco, the energy provider announced today.

The policy went into effect on Monday.

It allows property owners and residents with energy generators that produce under 15 kilowatts to feed energy into the grid at market value.

Applicants must meet technical requirements, be able to demonstrate that they have proper planning permission and licensing required by the Ministry of the Environment, and sign an interconnection agreement.

Only the first 200 qualified applicants will be able to be included.

Any electricity put into the electrical grid will be bought by Belco at market rates.
