Mysterious attack leaves man bleeding by side of road
A man is in a stable condition on a general ward at the hospital after a member of the public found him bleeding from an attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The man said he had been on Front Street at one a.m. but could not remember where the attack took place. He was found on Middle Road, Warwick near Tamarind Vale at 3.10 a.m. He said three men assaulted him and took his wallet which had $300 and other personal items. Police refused to say what injuries the man suffered.
Man injured in cycle accident
A 52-year-old Smith's Parish man was rushed to hospital last night after a collision with another vehicle left him with chest injuries and a broken arm.
Police said the man, who was on a bike, overtook a car as it was attempting to turn into Garthowen Estate in Smith's. An ambulance rushed the man to hospital shortly after 9 p.m.
High speed chase ends in arrest
A man was arrested for drunk driving after Police saw his white jeep being driven at high speed on Somerset Road, Sandys in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Officers said the driver nearly hit a wall before regaining control and speeding off. Police gave chase and at times at up to 100 kilometres per hour before it ended at Seawall Drive, Boaz Island. He was taken to Hamilton Police station where he failed a breath test.
Poll finds MPs should be drug tested
Almost nine in ten people responding to a Royal Gazette online poll feel that MPs should be drug-tested. Of the 905 people who took part in the poll on www.theroyalgazette.com, which ended on Friday, 87.6 percent said MPs should be drug tested, 10.5 percent said they should not and 1.9 percent said they did not know.

Prison for credit card fraudster
A homeless man has been jailed for nine months after pleading guilty to credit card fraud. Anthony Alexander Outerbridge, 32, pleaded guilty to stealing a Bank of Bermuda visa card from a home on May 5. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of forging receipts and two counts of uttering a stolen visa card plus one charge of obtaining $100 cash by false pretences from Docksiders.
Outerbridge, who has a previous convictions for stealing and forging cheques asked for 12 other offences to be taken into consideration. He was jailed for nine months on each count with the sentences to be served concurrently.
Hodgsons to speak at forum
Siblings Dr. Eva Hodgson and Mr. Arthur Hodgson will go head to head on the issue of independence next week at the BIU. Political Education Committee Chairman Calvin Smith said Mr. Hodgson was one of the original founders of the independence movement while Dr. Hodgson believed the issue was of secondary.
"Her brother Arthur, on the other hand, believes that Independence will provide Bermuda's major races with a common goal that should bind them together to produce an even better society. They come at it from different points of view."
Dr. Pauulu Kamarakafego, a UN consultant and the widely acclaimed father of the Movement to bring Universal Adult Suffrage to Bermuda will argue there are economic benefits from Bermuda going it alone. Mr. Smith will moderate the free meeting which starts at 7.30 p.m on June 15.
