Police are appealing for witnesses to a vicious hammer and baseball bat assault in Warwick on Saturday.

Police said a 36-year-old Sandys parish man was beaten about the body with a hammer and a baseball bat by two men outside a Bulkhead Drive home at around 8.40 p.m.

A nursing supervisor at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital said yesterday the victim had successfully underwent surgery in the operating room and was in a stable condition on a general ward. Police said the victim?s injuries included a laceration to the back of his head, a broken left arm, a fractured right leg and bruising.

His attackers who are ?known to the victim,? Police said, escaped in a car after the assault.

And Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

A man struggled with a burglar after finding him standing in the bedroom of his Lusher Lane, Warwick home last week, Police reported.

Police attended the break-in in the early hours after the suspect was seen standing in the bedroom of the complainant after he had gained entry to the home. A struggle occurred between the suspect and the complainant but the suspect escaped. He is described as a male between the ages of 32 and 40 and weighed approximately 200 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and dark shorts.

A 36-year-old man was arrested at People?s Pharmacy for attempting to break into a Tribe Road #1 residence. Police were alerted on Thursday afternoon after the complainant said she heard a loud noise and went outside to investigate.

She said she saw a man running from her neighbour?s home. Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, a thief stole five ceiling fans, two hand saws and a wooden loveseat from a shed at a West Lane, St. George?s home.

The theft occurred between 4 p.m. on Wednesday and 9.30 a.m. on Thursday.

A Southampton woman awoke at about 1.30 a.m. yesterday to find an intruder in her St. Anne?s Road home. Police searched the area, but could not find the man who escaped empty handed.
