Guides to bury time capsule
The Governor's wife and honorary president of the Bermuda Girl Guides Association, Lady Vereker, will host a tree planting and time-capsule burial ceremony on Saturday at Government House.
This is the 85th anniversary of the Guiding movement in Bermuda and to mark the occasion, a time-capsule will be buried at Guide Grove, on the Langton Hill side of the property.
The capsule will contain the Association's current constitution, badges, photographs and other information from all the active guide units on the Island.
Once buried, the capsule will be sealed until 2044 when it will be opened to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Guide movement in Bermuda.
After the capsule is buried, Lady Vereker and selected Guides will move to the northern portion of the Government House property where five native and endemic trees will be planted.
At the completion of the tree planting event, the Island Commissioner Ethel Liverpool will hand over 200 potted plants to Lady Vereker. These plants will be placed in the Rose Garden at Government House.
