Grinch takes Christmas charity cash from school

A heartless thief stole charity cash raised to buy new play equipment for St. George's Preparatory School kids.

The $670 had been raised at a recent Parent/Teachers Association Christmas sale but was taken from the Church Folly Lane school overnight on Thursday.

Principal Mary Lodge said: “It is the first time we have left money in the building for years.

“It seems the person knew exactly where they were going from the path they took when they broke in.

“It is very sad, it is not just like they randomly broke in and ransacked - they knew exactly what they were doing.”

Taxi driver praised for assistance as pair nabbed

Police have caught two suspects accused of riding alongside a moped and snatching a shopping bag from the cycle basket.

The snatch happened in on Middle Road, Southampton on Thursday night near the junction of Munro Lane.

The 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman, both from Sandys, were riding west when two men rode alongside, took the bag, and escaped.

The victims gave chase and had no luck but Police searched the area and found the shopping bag intact. Two suspects, a 19-year-old Southampton man and a 16-year-old Pembroke boy were arrested. Police are thanking a taxi driver who witnessed the incident for his assistance.
