According to Police, the victim was leaving Docksiders bar at about 12.55 a.m. and heading west when four men approached him near the Cenotaph.

One of the men stopped and asked him for a cigarette. When he refused the suspect punched the victim twice in the face and snatched a blue plastic bag he was carrying.

The suspect fled the scene and, despite being chased by the victim, he made his getaway on Court Street. The blue plastic bag was recovered nearby but $150 in cash was missing.

The suspect is described as a black man wearing brown pants, a green shirt and a light jacket.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Elsewhere on the Island, Police are investigating the alleged theft of a light blue Mitsubishi Lancer station wagon from a Rocklands Road home in Warwick. The owner stated that sometime between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, someone removed the vehicle, licence number 10765, from the home.

Police are appealing to members of the public to keep their vehicles locked at all times, ensuring all windows and doors are secure.

The Police officer saw the suspect attempting to gain entry to the premises. When the officer identified himself and attempted to detain the man, the suspect resisted until additional Police officers arrived on the scene and arrested him. Inquiries into these incidents are underway.
