Masked men attack man
Three masked men attacked a 29-year-old man on St. John's Street in Pembroke on Thursday night.
The men jumped out of a car and sprayed the victim in the face with a liquid substance but didn't take anything from him.
The three men then left the scene in their car.
A Police spokesman said that they believe the attack was an act of random violence and that the victim does not know his attackers.
A Good Samaritan came to the victim's assistance after hearing his pleas for help and then called Police.
Police managed to locate the vehicle used during the incident early yesterday morning and arrested the 18-year-old driver.
An investigation is underway.
Road safety campaign gets boost
In an effort to cut the number of deaths on our roads, Education Minister Terry Lister on Thursday announced a future Road Safety Campaign involving a DVD which will be given to all 15 year olds participating in Project Ride.
Mr. Lister said the DVD, which would be both informative and graphic, is aimed at making the young drivers more aware of the importance of road safety.
He said riding fast used to be a right of passage, but not anymore.
“We need to do something to get them to slow down,” he said.
The DVD, which is being produced by the Department of Education in conjunction with the Road Safety Council, will be distributed to all pupils at CedarBridge Academy and Berkeley Institute who participate in Project Ride.
Project Ride is a road safety programme offered at the two schools and students are encouraged to enrol in the programme prior to getting their auxiliary cycle licence when they turn 16.
Mr. Lister said he expected the DVDs to be released in the near future.
