Her critics may wish to silence her, but Jennifer Smith's voice can still be heard though her published speeches.

The book, entitled "Voice of Change: Selected Speeches of Jennifer Smith, Premier of Bermuda", will go on sale in Island bookstores within the next few weeks. It will include every speech she has made since 1972, when she first got involved in politics after returning from art college in Pittsburgh.

"It includes speeches on various topics ranging from culture, to art, to education and other relevant issues to Bermuda and internationally," said Progressive Labour Party public relations manager Walter Roban, who is the book's editor, and has written the introduction for it.

The 324-page tome also includes a foreword by Dr. C. Delores Tucker, who is the chair and founder of the National Congress of Black Women in the United States.

Mr. Roban said the book would go on sale, probably for under $40, within the next few weeks.

It was published by the Bermuda publishing company Molyneux Ltd. in conjunction with Hansib publications, based in London, England.

The Adult Library in Hamilton will not re-open until August 4.

The Queen Street library was set to open on July 28, but because of complications with the installation of the air-conditioning unit, it will not.

The decision was taken to do the work in the summer period, as September was traditionally the Library's busiest period.

Books can be renewed over the telephone by calling 295-2905 or they can be placed in the drop box outside the main door.

For other services the public should telephone the information desk on 295-3104.

A civilian who helped in the capture of escaped paedophile David Burrows will receive a cash reward from the Crime Stoppers organisation.

Burrows, 21, spent 25 days on the run after escaping prison officers while receiving medical attention at The Arches in Paget on June 9. At least 35 Police officers were sent on a high-speed chase on July 5 after numerous tip-offs and sightings helped them to finally locate the prisoner.

Police said yesterday that as a result of the community information received they had been able to capture Burrows.

Crime Stoppers has since given a financial reward to a member of the community for assistance and the Police thanked Crime Stoppers and the community for all their help.
