Breaking News: Bermuda signs memorandum of understanding with UWI

The Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Nigel Harris and Premier Ewart Brown sign a memorandum of understanding this morning .

Bermudian students will receive discounted rates from three University of West Indies (UWI) campuses.

The announcement was made this morning, as Premier Ewart Brown signed a memorandum of understanding with UWI vice chancellor Nigel Harris.

As a result, students who apply to UWI campuses in Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados will receive a 15 percent discount on fees.

The ceremony was attended by Education Minister El James, Bermuda College president Duranda Greene, Cabinet members, Bermuda Union of Teachers’ general secretary Mike Charles and two UWI delegates.

Mr. James said: “I have been in this Ministry for two years and I have been battling for two years [to see this happen].

“I know it was started by my good friend [former Education Minister] Randy Horton. He was the one who started it and I finished it.”
