Breaking News: Chaos as term limit policy meeting gets underway

A meeting for Bermudians in international business to discuss the term limit policy got underway amid chaotic scenes at the Berkeley Institute tonight.

More than 350 people turned up to discuss the controversial policy with Immigration Minister David Burch, who says he wants to clear away misconceptions.

But dozens were turned away, told that the auditorium was full, and no more could be accommodated.

Some left — but then the doors were opened to allow dozens of those left outside in after all.

The meeting caused controversy, because expats were banned by the Minister from attending.

Michael Fahy of the Bermuda Democratic Alliance and Michael Dunkley of the UBP were also banned after speaking out.

They pledged to turn up anyway — but did not do so in the end.

See tomorrow’s edition for coverage of the meeting, and interviews with Senator Burch, Senator Dunkley and Mr. Fahy.
