Clearwater Middle School is to reopen for classes tomorrow, Government announced this evening.

Classes were to have resumed on Wednesday but it was decided to wait until the results of air quality tests taken at the school were known - asbestos was found in a portion of the kitchen ceiling last month.

Said a Government spokesperson this evening: “Carpet, air and surface tests were taken and the school and its classrooms have been deemed safe for staff and students to occupy.

“It has been noted however that there are some areas of the school which need further cleaning and remediation and these will be closed off until work is completed.”

The situation will be “closely monitored” by the Ministry of Education, the spokesperson added.
