Breaking News: Cox sentenced to seven years
Cervio Cox was jailed for seven years today for his role in a triple shooting on Court Street on May 23 last year.
The 26-year-old was convicted by a jury yesterday of wounding the three victims with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutors described Cox as a 42 gang loyalist who took part in the violence in a bid to seek revenge against rival gang Parkside.
The 42 gang believed Parkside to be responsible for the shooting-to-death the day before of their member Kenwandee (Wheels) Robinson.
Cox was a friend of Mr. Robinson’s and a cousin of Mikey Adams, another 42 member injured in the May 22 incident.
Prosecutors believe Cox loaned his car to the perpetrators of the Court Street attack. The vehicle was used to transport a gunman driver and lookout man to the scene.
Cox was never alleged to be the gunman, but is the only person who has been charged in relation to the violence that unfolded in broad daylight on the busy shopping street.
Before he was sentenced Cox made an impassioned plea to those involved in gang violence to “put the guns down”.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves said his sentence “must seek not only to punish but to strongly deter”.
