Breaking News: Investigation launched after death of 23-year-old woman

Police have launched an investigation after the death of a 23-year-old woman this morning.Just after 8 a.m., first responders were called to a house in Devonshire to treat Alshante Brangman. She was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead at 8.29 a.m.A Police spokesman said: “An investigation has commenced and is being coordinated by officers from the Serious Crime Unit. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Brangman.”

Just after 8 a.m., first responders were called to a house in Devonshire to treat Alshante Brangman. She was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead at 8.29 a.m.

A Police spokesman said: “An investigation has commenced and is being coordinated by officers from the Serious Crime Unit. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Brangman.”

Officers were also called to a fight this morning at the hospital's Emergency Department’s waiting room. The spokesman added: “The minor altercation was quickly brought under control and inquiries are underway. It is believed both incidents are linked.

“The Bermuda Police Service is conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances of Ms. Brangman's death. A 28-year-old Sandys parish man is currently in custody assisting Police with their inquiries. Whilst there is a person in custody, the investigation and any subsequent conclusion(s) as to the cause(s) of her death will be predicated on the evidence in the matter.

“An autopsy is due to be conducted and we will be guided by the conclusion(s) of the forensic pathologist.”

Police are also appealing for witnesses to an assault between a man and a woman in the Emergency Department of KEMH around 1.50 p.m. on Sunday.
