A 22-year-old Pembroke man was today sentenced to 18 months behind bars after being convicted of aggravated burglary and common assault.
Devon Rohan Hewey, of Palmetto Road, assaulted 54-year-old victim Derrick Astwood by throwing a stone at him on April 15 last year.
Two days later Hewey broke into a residence and attacked Mr. Astwood with a machete and inflicted blows to his head, back and arm.
Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves called the attacks severe cases of “bullying” and said there should be zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour.
Hewey’s lawyer Craig Attridge argued the attacks were an “aberration” and were not likely to happen again.
