Breaking News: Plans revealed to remove education barriers

Bermuda’s oldest school today launched a campaign aimed at eliminating barriers to a world class education.

Warwick Academy (WA), which is oldest continuously operated school in Bermuda and the Western hemisphere, launched its Funding Our Future capital campaign at a press conference this morning.

The aim is to raise $5.75 million, $2 million of which will go toward scholarships and bursaries.

Director of the WA board Vince Ingham said: “Ultimately no qualified student should ever be turned away from Warwick Academy for lack of funding.”

The Scholarship and Bursaries Endowment will, for the first time, provide financial assistance to families of children in the primary school.

Another $2 million will go be raised for the teachers development endowment and $1.75 million for the physical plant refurbishment.

Today the school offers the GCSE programme as well as the International Baccalaureate.
