A second classroom for the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute's (BUEI) Education Centre was opened in an official ribbon cutting ceremony with Explorer Camp students, director and secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation David Lang, and BUEI trustees and staff yesterday morning.

Students immediately made good use of the new BUEI classroom, dissecting sharks found dead in codfish nets as part of the 'Dabble in Dissection Explorer Camp'.

BUEI was able to add the second classroom through funding from the Bank of Bermuda Foundation and the Ocean Fund. The new classroom allows BUEI to accomodate more children for the hands-on Explorer Camps.

The Explorer Camps give children the opportunity to participate in science-based programmes dealing with ocean discovery. A new camp, Dabble in Bermuda, focuses on the Bermuda's waters and their relationship with the Island itself. Campers learn about topics such as Bermuda's violent birth, mysterious past, and where we might be going in the geological future.

Other camps include Dabble in the Deep and Dabble in Dissection. The BUEI Education Department offers after-school programmes in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth & Sport, such as the Around Alone programme (where students track the progress of solo sailor Alan Paris), guided school tours and activities, and several other programmes.
