Cahow documentary to debut at BUEI
Tonight is the Island premiere of the documentary film about the Cahow and Bermuda?s Nonsuch Island and a small island called Sceillig off the coast of Ireland that has also become a haven for rare seabirds.
The award-winning full-length documentary ?Sceillig and Bermuda ? A Last Refuge? is being shown at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
It has previously been broadcast on Irish TV and attracted an audience of 100,000 when it was first seen on Christmas Day last year and 250,000 on Easter Monday this year.
It also picked up two awards at the 29th International Wildlife Film Festival in Montana for ?inspiring message? and ?photography?.
Andrew Dobson president of the Bermuda Audubon Society, which collaborated with wildlife filmmaker Eamon de Buitlear to make the movie, said: ?Now local people have the opportunity to see this fascinating documentary. It is about an hour long and includes terrific footage of the beautiful Sceilligs.
?Just as there are night sequences of the Cahow, there are also night shots of the Manx Shearwater and Storm-Petrol in Ireland. Many people I have spoken to who have already seen both the Bermuda and Irish versions of the Cahow story, say they prefer the Irish version for the way it parallels the two great stories.?
A shorter version of the movie is available on DVD showing only the Bermuda portion of the story.
Tickets to see the full length film cost $10 and are available from the Body Shop on Reid Street or at door this evening at 7 p.m.
