CedarBridge board and managers resolve differences

MONDAY, OCTOBER 25: The CedarBridge Academy board of governors and the school’s managers have resolved their differences with the assistance of a mediator, Education Minister El James announced today.

A dispute over controversial contracts ended up in Supreme Court earlier this year after a handful of managers were fired for various reasons.

An injunction was later issued preventing board members from firing managers — the board and the senior school’s managers have since been through mediation.

Said Mr. James: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board, the managers, and the Bermuda Public Services Union for sitting down around the table with the mediator and hammering out an agreement which brings to a close the dispute between the board and the managers."

Added an Education spokesperson: “While the details of the agreement are confidential, the Minister expressed the view that the resolution was equitable and in the best interest of all parties.”

CedarBridge board chairman George Scott and his second-in-command Lovitta Foggo were sacked from their positions earlier this month. The executive members of the board then resigned.

An Education spokesperson today said the board is now operating with the remaining members in place.
