CedarBridge roof will not be replaced ? Govt.
The Government has denied claims that the roof of mould-infested CedarBridge Academy needs replacing.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Education told that an article which appeared in the Bermuda Sun yesterday claiming that teachers had been told at a meeting that a completely new roof was required was inaccurate.
?Nobody has told us the roof has to be replaced and nobody has said anything like that to the teachers,? said the spokesman. ?We have been told there is some work to be done. It?s a figment of somebody?s imagination.?
The Island?s largest public school closed suddenly on November 1 for ?environmental health reasons? and a clean-up operation of mould in 20 classrooms is now under way.
Parents were told at a meeting on Thursday that the doors of the school could remain shut until Christmas and that students would be schooled from Monday at the old Berkeley Institute building and Bermuda College.
The spokesman yesterday scotched claims, also in the Bermuda Sun, that CedarBridge teachers were planning not to show up for orientation sessions at the old Berkeley on Monday due to the condition of the building. Bermuda Union of Teachers general secretary Mike Charles was reported as saying that the school was not fit for students or staff. He could not be contacted yesterday.
The Government spokesman said: ?We were not told by anybody that they weren?t going to work there on Monday. The teachers can speak for themselves but we know that story doesn?t actually reflect the reality from what we have been told.?
He added that cleaning of the facility was expected to be completed before the end of the weekend.
