CedarBridge students are expected to return to class today.

Teachers sent them home on Friday amid controversy over a 14-year-old boy who made a vulgar remark.

The boy was briefly suspended before being allowed back into the classroom by the Ministry of Education ? enraging teachers who held a meeting to discuss the matter.

On Friday, Bermuda Union of Teachers (BUT) president Lisa Trott described the sexually vulgar statement as a blatant violation of the Code of Conduct. Originally the teenager was suspended for five days, but returned to the school within 30 minutes because an appeal of the suspension had been launched. The Ministry of Education decided to allow the student to continue his education until his appeal hearing.

On Friday the Minister of Education, Terry Lister, said students who disrespected teachers would not be tolerated.

Yesterday, a Government spokesman said it was anticipated that both teachers and students would return to classrooms today.
