Christmas walkabout promises to be ?a great community night out?
The Bermuda National Trust's 20th Christmas walkabout will be held tomorrow.
Many different sections of the St. George's community will participate in the Christmas event, including churches, the St. George's Historical society and shops.
"For the past 20 years, the Trust has organised this event for its members as a thank you for all their support during the year," Christmas Walkabout Coordinator, Samantha Stephens said.
"However, we invite all to attend as it is a great community night out for families".
"This year it will be as lovely as ever. Teams from the Friendship Garden Club, the Hibiscus Garden Club, the Sunshine Garden Club, the Garden Club of Bermuda and the BNT Museum's Committee will be decorating our historic buildings in the traditional festive style. In addition, we will have wonderful entertainment with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus to meet the children."
Every historic attraction in the Town and many other St. George's venues will be open for free as they entertain an expected 2,000 people at: King's Square, St. Peter's Church, Globe Hotel, Black History Museum, Tucker House, Reeve Court, the Old Rectory, St. George's Historical Society and the Print Shop.
Bermuda's internationally known soprano Marcelle Clamens will be singing festive songs in St. Peter's Church, where there will also be costumed carolers and the Christ Church Warwick bell choir.
For the first time, the Ebenezer Methodist Church will feature in the festivities with "readings by Robert Mello and Herbie Siggins and performances by East End Primary School Choir and the Bermuda School of Music", the National Trust's Project Manager, Kate Berry said. "The Church Hall will have crafts and refreshments for the children."
Highlights of the entertainment in King's Square include: the Menuhin Youth Orchestra, Saltus Jazz Band, Jackson School of Dance and the Salvation Army Band. St. George's Town Crier, Michael Frith will also entertain the crowd.
Fancy cheese and wine at an archaeology lab? Then drop in on the Trust's Archaeology Committee at Reeve Court.
The Bermuda Heritage Museum at Samaritan's Lodge will be open for the evening, as will Samaritan's Cottages. In addition, several stores: Frangipani, Ocean Sails, and Cafe Latte will be open where refreshments will be served.
But the Francis Patton Primary and St. George's Prep School choirs will only be heard at Cafe Latte, as will be musician Shine Hayward and a marshmallow roast, she said.
Ms Berry added that refreshments and a free events and location program will be available from the membership tent on Water Street, behind the Bank of Bermuda.
The event is open from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.to all and admission is free.
"We invite everyone to have a great night out with us," Ms Berry said. "It's a way to celebrate Christmas in St. George's with the whole community."
