Concert washout could help hurricane victims
A lot of good can still come out of the cancelled Bermuda Music Festival performances, with Sound Stage giving people the option of donating their unused tickets towards the Hurricane Relief Telethon.
Refunds will be given out from stores starting next Monday, October 25, a Sound Stage spokesman said, and the Telethon, to be hosted by ZBM's Gary Moreno, is on October 26.
"It's perfect timing," the spokesman said.
Those interested in donating the cost of their tickets towards hurricane relief have two options. They can either call their pledge in to the Telethon on the night of October 26 and bring their unused tickets to Sound Stage the next day, or they can bring their unused tickets in before the Telethon and Sound Stage will record their names to be read out by Mr. Moreno during the televised event.
Sound Stage will then send the tickets to Black Entertainment Television (BET), who could then write a cheque in the name of the hurricane relief fund.
"Even if just half the people do it, it will help," the spokesperson said. Those holding more than one ticket can donate as many of their tickets as they like, he added.
The Telethon aims to raise $100,000, and the spokesperson said if just half the people that are eligible for refunds from Sound Stage exercise this option, "(the Telethon organisers) will be well on their way".
