A couple have appeared in court charged in connection with the death of their baby seven years ago.

Renee Erma Daniels, 37, and Philip Paul Daniels, 49, are accused of unlawfully killing 10-month-old Samira Marye Daniels in November 1998. The couple, of Verdmont Valley View, Smith?s, did not enter pleas when they appeared in court yesterday..

They were each granted $2,000 bail by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Defence lawyer Richard Hector asked for both his clients to be discharged before any prosecution evidence was heard.

He said that the delay in charging both defendants and bringing the case to court was an ?abuse? of court process. Mr. Warner adjourned the case until November 22 for further legal argument.
