Crockwell denies stealing $33,338

Suspended Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Crockwell has pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing $33,338 in December last year.

He appeared at the monthly arraignments session yesterday and entered a plea of not guilty to the accusation that he stole the money from Andrew Bascome and Terry Jessie Darrell on a date between December 22 and December 30 last year.

The suspended Police officer, of Smith?s Hill Road, St. George?s, had his bail extended until June 1 by Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves.

Among the other cases mentioned in Supreme Court yesterday were those of Terrence Smith, 45, who was convicted in March of defrauding the Bermuda Housing Corporation of $1.2 million and Andre Hypolite, 33, who was convicted last month of murdering Nicholas Dill.

A date of May 12 was set for the sentencing of Smith. His lawyer, Larry Scott, has confirmed that his client plans to appeal after this. Hypolite will be sentenced on May 26. Both these defendants were remanded into custody.

Another case mentioned yesterday was that of Canadian Emmanuel Omoghan, 40, of Ontario, who is believed to have fled the Island skipping a $25,000 bail surety in the process.

A warrant for the arrest of the alleged cocaine importer was issued at the previous arraignments session in April but Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said it appeared Omoghan had fled the jurisdiction. He was alleged to have imported the drugs to Bermuda between May and June last year and was previously bailed for $25,000 in Magistrates? Court.

The re-trial of promising young North Village footballer Reggie Devonne Lewis and co-defendant Elroy Jermaine Dill, both of Fork Lane, Southampton, has been set for July 4.

Both men are being represented by lawyer Larry Scott and are charged with causing grievous bodily harm to David Leroy Burchall and breaking into his home in Southampton in January 2005. A previous trial of Lewis and Dill ended with a hung jury last November.

David Jahwell Cox, 26, and Antoine Hubert Anderson, 28, are accused of grievous bodily harm with intent, deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery, and demanding property with menaces relating to Torrick Williams. The case was listed for mention again on June 1 ? prompting defence lawyer Craig Attridge to appeal for the case to be heard as soon as possible.

?This matter is two years old and has already been listed for trial twice,? he protested.

Jahkemo Virgil, 23, will be sentenced on May 26, for importation of cocaine and possession of that drug with intent to supply. The defendant, of an address listed an ?unknown? in court papers, was remanded into custody.

Justine Dane Ingemann, of Ferry Road, St. George?s, has pleaded guilty to breaking and entering Francis Patton school in Hamilton Parish on March 11, 2005, stealing money and property and at the same time wilfully damaging a Hewlett Packard computer printer belonging to the Government.

Ingemann also pleaded guilty to breaking into a house on Ferry Road, St. George?s some time between September 7 and September 9 last year with intent to steal. He was represented by lawyer Elizabeth Christopher who asked the case be listed for mention on June 1 while social inquiry and psychological reports are prepared, mentioning her client suffered a serious head injury in the past. Ingemann, who is under supervision, was granted bail.

A re-trial date has still to be set for Somerset couple Jennifer Medeiros and Oshane Eugene Darrell, of Seawall Drive, who had their convictions in a $200,000 cocaine case quashed by the Court of Appeal in March. The couple, who are on bail, appeared at the arraignments session and will re-appear on June 1 for mention.

Tyrone Sinclair Brangman also appeared in court and is to appear again on May 26 to answer a charge of breaching a three-year probation order imposed in 2003 after he narrowly avoided a prison sentence for the mugging of a 77-year-old woman outside Southampton Post Office.

Guest worker Donald Iain MacDonald, 28, of Hill Top Drive, Southampton, charged with causing death by dangerous driving after being involved in a two bike collision in North Street, Hamilton, last September, which resulted in the death of Canadian barmaid Anett Farkas, 24, has been bailed to reappear on June 1.

Wilbur Clyde Burt, 38, of Friswells Road, Pembroke, who is facing an allegation of having unlawful carnal knowledge, is on bail to appear for trial on September 11.

Charged with committing grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm on February 4 this year, Michael Ameshack Jones, 24, of Kitty?s Lane, Hamilton Parish, has ordered to reappear on June 1 for mention.

William Eugene Oral Robinson, 45, of Parsons Road, Pembroke and Jamar Malik Dill, 32, of Seagull Lane, Pembroke, face a trial on July 10 having been charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery and possession of an offensive weapon. The pair were both unrepresented by lawyers in court and Justice Carlisle, giving them both bail, ordered them to seek legal counsel and to reappear for mention at the next arraignments session on June 1.

A trial date of June 19 has been set for Kawesi Simba Wilson, 30, of Cedar Park, Devonshire, who is on bail and faces a charge of breaking and entering and robbery.

Nikia Javon Burchall, 30, of Middle Town Lane, Pembroke, has been charged with assault, and wilful and unlawful damage and has been released on bail for trial on July 10.
