A Customs officer has been suspended from duty followed an alleged incident last weekend, it has been revealed.

John Burchall, public affairs officer for the Department of Customs, saidThe Department of Customs can confirm that a customs officer has been suspended from regular duties pending the outcome of an investigation into an incident that is alleged to have taken place last weekend.?
When contacted by last night, the officer - who has not been named by the Department of Customs - said he was not aware that he had been suspended. ?It?s news to me,? he said. Asked to comment further, he added: ?It?s kind of private.?
Edward Ball, general secretary of the Bermuda Public Services Union, said he was not aware of the case. But he added: ?From the union?s perspective, we are always mindful of any BPSU civil servants? obligations to follow the code of conduct; that is, not do anything that?s perceived as a criminal activity.
?If there is anything that does have that flavour it certainly would be investigated by the Police. If there is a bona fide case to answer to that person would have to go through the disciplinary procedure.?
