?DeVent should resign?

Patricia Gordon Pamplin is calling on Works and Engineering Minister Ashfield DeVent to resign, accusing him of incompetence in handling the build-up a potentially hazardous stock pile at the Tynes Bay Treatment Facility.

?Everything the Minister touches turns to mud. His ability to manage his portfolio must be called into question as he managed his job very poorly. They must have somebody capable,? Shadow Works and Engineering Minister Ms Gordon Pamplin said.

?While maintenance of the machines at Tynes Bay is required, you have to manage the maintenance which is vital part of running the machines effectively.?

The Shadow Minister added her voice to concerns by Tynes Bay residents who fear another arson attack similar to which occurred on Christmas Day 2004 at the Devonshire facility

She suggested that perhaps if the incinerator is going to lose a third of its time because of maintenance repairs, the time lost must be compensated for by running it for an extra two hours to prevent a stockpile of refuse building up unnecessarily.

Ms Gordon Pamplin also poured cold water over the Works and Engineering Minister?s announcement of the hand-over phase of the Berkeley Senior Secondary School to the Ministry of Education and Development.

?The project is 30 months late and $50 million over budget. In addition to pieces of the project being handed over, the public ought to know how much this project is costing and it could end up being $140 million over budget.?

?He should apologise over how much the project is being mismanaged,? Ms Gordon Pamplin said.

She contends that the public does not know about the cost of additional settlements for arbitration with Pro-Active Management and its successor Somers Construction and the outstanding issue of the Performance Bond.
