Diaspora plaque unveiled
Tourism and Transport Minister Ewart Brown has unveiled a series of commemorative plaques in anticipation of the upcoming African Diaspora Heritage Slave Trail (ADHT) conference next week.
There are 11 ADHT Trail Sites that have been officially designated, and they have been included in the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Slave Route Project.
The local ADHT sites have been commemorated with handcrafted bronze plaques by Bermudian sculptor Carlos Dowling from Dockyard.
Next week?s conference, which starts on Wednesday and finishes on Sunday, will feature actor and African activist Danny Glover as the chairman of the event.
The Bermuda Department of Tourism is expecting over 150 overseas guests at the Fairmont Southampton event including government, tourism, education and cultural officials from Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas.
A host of hospitality professionals, community leaders, museum curators, architects and philanthropic representatives will also be in attendance.
There will be roundtable discussions, exhibits, speakers, a gala dinner featuring cuisine of the African Diaspora and ADHT tours of the Bermuda Trail.
