Education month proclamation calls for community involvement
Parents, grandparents, carers and the community at large were invited to partake in the education of the Island's children by Minister of Education Paula Cox yesterday.
Ms Cox opened Education Month on the steps of City Hall by reading a proclamation celebrating community involvement in education.
"Education should not be the considered solely the concern of principals, teachers and students, rather education is the concern of everyone in the community who cares about the future of Bermuda.
"It is also important that the business community supports and fosters the public education system and plays an active role in developing excellence among students who will be the work force of tomorrow."
Ms Cox was joined by young musicians from around the Island who gave an open air concert on the steps of City Hall.
Chief Education Officer Dr. Joseph Christopher noted: "Music and other extra-curricular activities help young people to continue on in school.
"Sometimes academia is often seen as the only path for education, but education is about all aspects of a persons life. I am very pleased with the creation of the Middle School Orchestra and the concert."
Amongst the performers were Northlands Primary School, who read the opening prayer, St John's Nursery School's boys choir who danced to 'This Little Light of Mine', the Hand Bell Choir from Whitney Middle School, Sandys Secondary Middle School Band and the Middle School Orchestra.
