Erin becomes a threat again
A storm system to the Island's south was downgraded last night but once again became a threat to Bermuda.
Tropical Depression Erin, a tropical storm two days ago, was thought to be heading west and its closest approach to Bermuda would be no less than 580 nautical miles within 72 hours.
But recent forecasts predict the closest point, within 72 hours, will be 265 nautical miles to the south-southeast at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
At 6 p.m. yesterday, Erin was at 23.3 north by 58.7 west, approximately 625 nautical miles south-southeast of Bermuda.
It was moving north-west at six knots, with maximum sustained winds of 30 knots, gusting to 40 knots.
"Satellite images indicate that the remnants of Erin have become better organised,"a weather service spokesman said.
