Family of tragic Tyaisha launch petition on death crash laws

The woman involved in a car crash last August in which six-year-old Tyaisha Cox died had her trial adjourned yesterday.

Melanie Jane Wedgewood, of Hillview Road, Warwick, was charged with driving without due care and attention.

Her lawyer Saul Froomkin QC was away yesterday so the trial was adjourned until November 18.

Tyaisha?s family have launched a petition in a bid to amend the laws which govern road traffic fatalities.

Tyaisha?s stepfather, O?Niel Moore, said they felt Wedgewood should have been charged with a more serious charge than driving without due care.

She said that the petition was started yesterday and people could go to The Bank of Butterfield (Rosebank) or the Telephone Company in Somerset to sign it. The petition is entitled: ?The family of Tyaisha Cox in search of proper laws governing deaths which occur on Bermuda roads.?

Tyaisha?s great aunt, Michelle Trott said the whole ordeal had been very frustrating.

As of last night Mr. Moore said that he was not exactly sure how many signatures they received but that it was more than 100 so far.
