Fire scare in Hamilton

Firefighters rushed to a blaze at a Hamilton home yesterday morning after reports that the householders were still inside.

They discovered that two people who had been in the property on Washington Street, at the junction with Elliott Street, had managed to get out before three firefighters were sent in to extinguish the flames.

Lieutenant Ronnie Aguiar, from the Fire Service, said the report of the fire came in at 10.24 a.m.

?Our first-arrived vehicle at 10.28 a.m. found that we had smoke and visible flames in one room. The fire was attacked using three firefighters, breathing apparatus and a hose line. The fire was extinguished at 10.56 a.m.?

Lt. Aguiar said the living room was gutted by fire and the rest of the home damaged by smoke and heat. He said the cause of the fire was still being investigated.

One of the occupants, a man, told he did not wish to comment.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: ?We are not involved. It?s purely a fire matter.?
