Get fell in, all you 'orrible little men!
Nearly 200 new conscripts will turn up for Bermuda Regiment training on Sunday — and they have been warned to leave their "civilian attitudes" at home.
The 15-day basic training, nicknamed "Boot Camp," will see the soldiers-to-be complete 18-hour days of drill, weapons handling and live firing. They will also learn about the history of the Regiment and its current role in protecting Bermuda.
Captain Robert Spurling, Officer Commanding Training Company which puts together the syllabus, said: "My team has put in a lot of effort and I am expecting a great camp. While there may be a few challenges with new recruits, it is always amazing how many diverse people come together for a common purpose and achieve the training objectives in a relatively short time."
The Regimental Police will round up those who do not show up for Boot Camp, and Public Relations Officer Major Stephen Caton urged this year's new recruits to get to Warwick Camp on time.
"I encourage soldiers to be early for this Sunday's 8 a.m start. Be properly dressed, have your kit well prepared, your hair closely cut, and leave your cell phones and civilian attitudes at home," he warned.
This year's training team will feature personnel from Bermuda's sister regiments, the Jamaican Defence Force, the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. The programme will involve some closures to the Warwick beaches during live firing and training exercises.
New soldiers with questions on what is required prior to Sunday's first muster parade can contact the Training Company office on 238-3883.
