Government pledges to repair damaged wall

Government has promised to reinforce protection around a broken wall next to a dangerous drop after raised concerns.

But Works and Engineering have refused to say when the wall will be mended properly.

The hole near the junction of Palmetto Road and Marsh Folly Road has been there for two months after a Police car chasing machete wielding hooligans smashed into it but avoided careering over the 50-foot drop. Concerned reader Wayne Williams rang this paper to complain about the length of time it was taking to fix the 20-foot gap.

He said: ?I am afraid for children walk across that area every day to go to school. Dellwood, Victor Scott and Prospect are all nearby.

?But all they have done is put three cones and a bit of tape. They couldn?t even put a couple of two by fours.?

However on Tuesday a Government spokesperson said: ?The Ministry of Works and Engineering and Housing is aware of the damaged wall and can confirm there are efforts afoot to exact repairs.

?The Ministry assures the public that it has taken steps to reinforce protection of the area.?

But as of late yesterday the situation remained the same.
