Heritage Issue of rg magazine out tomorrow
Bermuda?s celebration of the 500 years since its recorded discovery is a principal theme of this year?s Heritage Month, celebrated throughout May, and rg magazine?s annual Heritage Issue focuses on this anniversary.
The Quincentennial Heritage Issue looks at each of the centuries that make up Bermuda?s history since its discovery by man. The Age of Discovery; the American Colonial Period; the American War of Independence and Bermuda?s Gun Powder Plot; the American Civil War which led to the Island?s role as a safe harbour for the Southern States? blockade runners and as a place of refuge for those who escaped here from the horrors of slavery; and World War II, where Bermuda played a crucial role in the Allied victory, are among the subjects in this 92-page magazine.
This year, rg magazine also explores the Heritage Month theme of ?A Bermuda for Everyone... Everyone for Bermuda? with stories that include 100 Bermudians who made a difference; the role of the military; the story of a rum runner and the development of education for those people with special needs.
To illustrate this issue, rg magazine has used old photographs and maps, but particularly Bermuda stamps that were designed to celebrate many aspects of Bermuda?s history and culture. This annual publication, which is sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, will be in available in tomorrow?s .
