Hospitals chief joins top 'club'
The acting CEO of the Bermuda Hospitals Board Venetta Symonds has achieved a globally recognised certification in healthcare management.
And her entry into a world-wide ?club? of top medical professionals has been praised as an example of what a Bermudian can achieve when they show commitment to their chosen profession.
Mrs. Symonds currently heads the BHB, overseeing the running of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute while the search for a new permanent CEO to replace Joan Dillas-Wright who retired earlier this year.
Mrs. Symonds has achieved the Certified Healthcare Executive credential through the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Around 6,000 healthcare professionals around the world hold the certification, demonstrating their understanding of healthcare management, diversity, finance and legal issues.
?On behalf of the BHB I commend Venetta for this achievement. We are proud to support BHB senior managers in furthering their healthcare and executive skills, as this improves our ability as an organisation to improve patient care,? said BHB chairman Anthony Richards.
?As a member of the BHB senior management team, this also demonstrates that Venetta is prepared to lead by example and show how much can be achieved by a Bermudian committed to her profession.?
Mr. Richards said he hoped Mrs. Symonds? example would inspire other staff members to ?strive for excellence through continued education.?
The BHB is currently considering the 270 candidates from around the world who have applied for the permanent CEO position. The selection committee alongside PricewaterhouseCoopers is currently working on a shortlist to find the most suitable candidate.
