Inspiring Jeremy dies aged 6

Jeremy and Karen Bordage. Jeremy, 6, who had cerebral palsy, died on Thursday.

Six-year-old Jeremy Bordage, who was an inspiration for the Team Hope charity runners that raised $116,000 in this year?s May 24 Marathon Derby, has died.

The youngster, who had cerebral palsy, was a student at Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy. His mother Karen is one of Bermuda?s fastest long-distance runners and Team Hope was 83-strong on race day, with each competitor raising money for the Academy which looks after special-needs children.

The remarkable achievement of the charity fundraisers made front page news in the last month.

On Thursday the six-year-old passed away. A tribute has been paid by The Friends of Hope Academy.

Chris Silvester, vice-president of the Friends of Hope Academy charity, said: ?We are very sad to report that Jeremy Bordage, son of Karen and Daniel Bordage and brother to Alex, passed away on Thursday.

?Jeremy was a student at the Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy and along with his mother, Karen, was at the forefront of Team Hope which ran on May 24 raising a remarkable $116,000.

?Jeremy was a wonderful little boy whose smile transcended all his difficulties. He brought immense joy to Karen, Daniel and Alex. He inspired others to care for him and his friends at the school, to work tirelessly to help educate and improve their lives.?

He added: ?Karen and Daniel inspired many by being truly wonderful parents, loving and caring for Jeremy.

?Jeremy was a fortunate little boy for having two such dedicated and loving parents.

?Jeremy will be greatly missed and held in affection by his fellow students and staff of Hope Academy and by the charity, Friends Of Hope Academy.?

Mr. Silvester said that in lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Friends of Hope Academy at 10 Military Road, Devonshire DV 02.
