Lengthy debate today

Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons will today criticise last week?s Throne Speech, claiming Government is long on promises and short on specifics.

And in the Throne Speech debate in the House of Assembly, the United Bermuda Party leader will outline policies his team will be pushing in the coming year.

MPs will also get a half-yearly assessment of the state of the economy, delivered by Finance Minister Eugene Cox or his daughter, Education Minister Paula Cox.

The week after the Throne Speech is given over to the Opposition to reply, and for all MPs to debate Government?s legislative programme for the year. Government Whip Ottiwell Simmons said yesterday he was hoping to get cooperation from the UBP to wrap up the debate in one sitting today.
