Listening forum to be held tomorrow

The Bermuda Education Strategic Team (BEST) will be hosting a listening forum tomorrow night in the Cathedral Hall in Hamilton.

A panel of guest speakers, including Donna Kelley, the Education Officer for English Language Arts, deputy principal of Paget Primary Terry Cox and Nikita Euler, who is the English Resource Leader at Sandys Secondary Middle School, will be addressing the topic of literacy in public education.

The public are invited to attend the forum which starts at 5.30 p.m. with an opening address by Minister of Education Terry Lister.

BEST project manager Rhonda Woods-Smith said yesterday the Ministry hopes to inform the public and parents of what is currently being done to improve literacy in classrooms.

She said the Ministry also hopes to discuss ways to improve the writing skills of students. ?We want parents to form partnerships with teachers to assist in the entire process,? she said.

The forum will be simulcast on Power 95 for members of the public who are unable to attend.
