Martin Law named new executive director of BEC

Former top civil servant Martin Law is the new executive director for the Bermuda Employers Council.

Mr. Law had an extensive career in Government and was Coordinator of Security Services in the Ministry of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety.

A Press release from the Bermuda Employers Council (BEC) said Mr. Law brought a solid background in negotiation and labour relations to the post as well as an excellent understanding of the working relationships between the private sector, Government and unions.

BEC president William DeSilva, Jr. said: ?Mr. Law?s appointment reflects the desire of the BEC to appoint an Executive Director who is a mature individual and who is comfortable and competent in dealing with all sectors of the community.

?We are delighted Martin has agreed to join.

?His experience and varied background will serve him well in leading the BEC on a day-to-day basis.

?He will be an asset for our organisation and membership as he initiates the successful implementation of our new strategic plan.?

Commenting on his new appointment, Mr. Law said: ?I am delighted to be a part of the BEC, especially in light of the beginning of a new phase in its continued development.

?I look forward to working with all parties and to providing assistance and guidance to our member companies.?

Mr. Law will work on the implementation of best practices for member organisations, assist small businesses with growth, particularly in employment law and labour relations, and enhance training.

Mr. Law will also focus on the continued development of BEC staff through mentoring.
