Motorcyclist critically hurt

A motorcyclist was in a critical condition last night after his bike struck a kerb on South Road near the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.

Police closed a section of the road and were taking measurements and gathering evidence at the scene as a precaution in case the condition of the injured man worsens overnight.

?A serious road traffic collision took place at 9.37 p.m. on South Road in Southampton about 400 metres west of the Fairmont Southampton,? said Bermuda Police Service spokesman Dwayne Caines last night.

?It appears that a male was travelling on the road when he lost control of the cycle and hit a kerb. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is listed as critical.?

As an investigation of the crash scene was being conducted traffic using South Road in the immediate vicinity was being re-directed along Lighthouse Road and also through the access road to the Southampton Fairmont.
