A new centre has opened to provide treatment for young autism sufferers.

Tomorrow's Voices, Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre, at the Marsden First United Methodist Church's Talbot School, Smith's, is the first place to provide such a service on the Island.

Board chairman Brian Purvey said: "We are extremely delighted to open this facility. We look forward to delivering first class instruction to the children to facilitate their learning and growth so they may reach their full potential.

"We are extremely indebted to our sponsors and volunteers and thank them for their support."

Tomorrow's Voices was the brainchild of Thea Furbert, president of Bermuda Autism Support and Education Society (BASE), and Tricia Crow, past president of BASE, and many other interested parents and friends of BASE.

It provides instruction, therapy and an educational environment for children on the autism spectrum.

It has four therapists and one director working with four children. Enrolment will be expanded to ten children next year and possibly 15 in 2009.

"This has been a long-term goal and I'm delighted that my dream is finally a reality" said deputy chairman Ms Crow.
