New ferry on the horizon

Another new ferry for Bermuda is on the horizon even as the Island prepares to welcome the latest addition to the fleet, the 124 foot ferry, which is undergoing final preparations in the US before making its journey to the Island in the next two weeks.

Transport permanent secretary Marc Telemaque said analysis of the service once is in operation between Hamilton and the East End, will determine where a future planned ferry will slot in.

No time scale for when the next ferry will be ordered and built has yet been made.

@$:In the meantime the new blue-and-white ferry that was launched by Mr. Telemaque at the Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport, Connecticut , last Monday, is undergoing sea trials before it sets sails for Bermuda, where it will be officially named in honour of well-remembered Eastender Charles Hilgrove W. Fox.

Mr. Fox was owner of the Black Horse tavern in St. David?s and a prominent figure in the Eastern County and Cup Match cricket games.

The Warbaby Fox ferry has a top speed of 33 knots per hour and can carry 350 passengers. It is powered by four diesel and four water jet engines and took six months to build.
