Parents delighted to share school day with children

CedarBridge Academy opened its doors to parents this week as part of its ?Bring Your Parent to School? week.

Parents are being encouraged to visit their children?s classrooms and meet the staff at CedarBridge.

The school?s social worker, Roshanda Caines, was surfing the Internet looking for ideas when she found a school that held a similar event and felt it was a good fit with CedarBridge?s mission.

The school is committed to student excellence and a partnership between staff and parents.

?It?s a way for them to come and see what a typical day is like,? she said. ?They also get to see the teachers in action. It also helps students because they know that their parents are interested in their education.?

The halls of CedarBridge were full of smartly dressed students escorting parents around. Many students came up to Deputy Principal Joanne Anderson, who gave a tour.

Stephen Smith was delighted that he was able to see what his son, Staphan Dill, was up to. Staphan is currently an S2 student and he brought his father to his science and home room classes. Mr. Smith also met teachers to get a progress report on his son?s studies.

Mr. Smith said the teachers were enthusiastic and committed to working with parents and his overall impression was that the school was doing ?a marvellous job?.

He encouraged more parents to come to the event and get involved in their child?s life.

Vice president of Student Government, Elise Johnston, was pleased with how things were going. Her parents visited the school yesterday.

?It?s really nice to know that so many parents are interested in their child?s development,? she said.

Ms Anderson also said that the school has an open-door policy and parents can drop by throughout the year or contact teacher by phone and e-mail if they want to discuss their child?s progress.
