Extra Police units had to be called to the Hamilton MarketPlace after a Policeman struggled to arrest a shoplifter.

The store manager of the Church Street branch alerted a Policeman on his lunch break of his suspicions around 2.20 p.m. on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old Pembroke suspect was approached and found to have a knapsack with food and six beers.

When asked if he had paid for the items the man made no reply. When the Policeman told the suspect he was under arrest he ran.

The Police officer and store manager struggled with the suspect and additional units were called. The man was then arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station.
