An 18-year-old woman riding a motorcycle was injured when she was involved in a collision with a car turning near the Tynes Bay incinerator plant on Palmetto Road in Devonshire yesterday morning.

The early morning crash caused some disruption to peak hour traffic heading in and out of Hamilton and has prompted a Police warning for all motorists to obey the rules of the road after a particularly high number of road collisions, including three fatalities, on the Island?s roads during the past month. The latest crash happened at the junction of Palmetto Road and Aeolia Drive around 8.40 a.m.

Police investigating the incident believe the motorcyclist was travelling west along Palmetto Road when it she was in collision with a car that was turning into the entrance of the Tynes Bay incinerator complex.

As a result the Pembroke woman motorcyclist was thrown from her bike and sustained injuries. She was taken be ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to injuries which were thought to be serious but not life-threatening.

Police have now renewed calls for the public to adhere to all the rules of the road. They warned offenders they may be brought before the courts.

?There has been an increase in the number of accidents on the roads and we remind people to obey the speed limit, fasten helmets properly, keep an appropriate distance from the vehicle in front and always use signals when turning. And we would remind motorists not to create a ?third lane? when overtaking traffic, particularly during peak hours of travel.?
